أقول للبنان … لا يأس مع الحياة ... و لا حياة لمن تنادي

Your Children ... Our Children

I wish we can do more. I know our governments did not react the way we have expected them to react in such “unnatural” disaster. Please forgive us for what they’ve done and don’t put us with them in the same circle. Our Arab governments did not give you the “positive” support you are waiting for. When I say “positive” I mean the military forces and the oil pressure against all those supporting the Israeli terrorism.

What can I say? I wanted to explode and talk about my thoughts two weeks ago regarding this one-side war against Lebanese and Palestinians … but I didn’t. I was watching the news full of anger and nothing but anger. More than 600 Lebanese civilians have been killed by Israeli bombs and more than 700,000 Lebanese are homeless. Such crimes are expected from the Israeli army, but the silence crime from our leaders is the sad part.

I wish I can say, “Don’t Worry Lebanon! Our Money Is Coming To Save You”. But all the money of the world can’t bring back the dead children. But this is all we can do right now as people … to offer the least … our “negative” support to you. The negative support is through giving money, food, health aid, shelters, etc. We can never call this charity … we call it the least to be offered as our duty to our fellow Muslim and Arab neighbors.

The only thing I can say to the people of Lebanon who are waiting for any kind of “positive” support from their neighbor Arab countries is:

لا يأس مع الحياة ... و لا حياة لمن تنادي

But please Lebanon … Please accept our “negative” support and forgive us …

China-Tibet Train: World's Highest Railway With Extreme Passenger Environment

China-Tibet Train
Beijing-Lhasa Express: The first train from Lhasa Railway Station travels on the Tibetan grasslands near Lhasa, Tibet.
Click above for larger image

The first train from Beijing, China reached the Tanggula pass on Monday July 24 after a two-day journey, where it climbed to 5,072m (16,000 feet), before beginning the descent to Lhasa, Tibet.

The line boasts high-tech engineering to stabilise tracks over permafrost and oxygen pumped into cabins to help passengers cope with the high altitude. Restaurant car's rice cooked in pressure cookers, to mitigate effects of high altitude.

Although some oxygen is pumped into the train cars as they roll through Tibet, the air inside has 30 percent less oxygen than it did some 2,100 miles ago, back in Beijing. As the express powers over its highest point — the 16,640-foot Tangula Pass — many on board begin to feel it and complained of feeling sick.

"Now we've reached the top, I feel sick and nauseous and have headaches," Wu Jia, 32, a Chinese tourist, told Reuters news agency.

According to a Reuters reporter on the train, passengers attached oxygen tubes to their noses and were forced to lie down. Dozens of passengers strap on oxygen masks, some experience bloody noses and a few lose their lunch. Pens spit their ink and potato chip bags expand until some burst their seams with the dramatic drop in atmospheric pressure.

China's official media has hailed the new Qinghai-Lhasa line as an engineering wonder. China's President Hu Jintao, who watched the first train leave Golmud, in China's Qinghai province, for Lhasa on Saturday, called it a "magnificent feat".

Beijing to Lhasa train trip takes 48 hours and costs $50-$160 one way.

Self Stirring Mug: No Spoon Required (Link)

Self Stirring Mug

This is a very cool mug to have if you are so busy to waste few valuable seconds stirring your coffee with a spoon!

this mug has a miniature battery-operated propeller at the bottom of the well that spins at 3,000 rpms at the touch of a button on the handle, automatically stirring your beverage and eliminating the need to dispose of stirrers or find a place to leave coffee-dampened spoons. At your command the propeller re-stirs mugs of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea, preventing chocolate or sugar from settling out of solution, and overcoming the traditional challenge of adequately mixing honey in a hot drink.

The mug includes a lid to keep contents from spilling and to retain heat, and the lid can be placed underneath the mugs base as an impromptu coaster. The mug is lightweight injection-molded plastic sheathed in a stainless steel exterior. Requires two AA batteries.

This mug is available at $30 for two mugs at Hammacher Schlemmer. The mug also requires 2 x AA batteries.

I also found another similar mug from Initial Ideas that is sold for $23 and requires 2 x AAA battries.

How To Cook an Egg with Mobile Phones! (Link)

How To Cook an Egg with Mobile Phones
Photo by Anatoly Zhdanov

First of all, it is possible! It was all started when a couple of students from the UK have posted A Guide to Mobile Cooking back in September 2005 at the most. Then after some sharp eyed geek told slashdot in February 2006 about the article, in one week 250,000 people found it necessary to download those instructions.

After the popularity of this article took off (thanks to slashdot), three wise men tried to follow those instructions but failed after a 10-minute testing.

A couple of months later, two russian guys tried the same the same experiment concept but with different results this time! The following is the translation of the russian article by Victoria Boutenko ....

Vladimir Lagovski and Andrei Moiseynko from Komsomolskaya Pravda Newspaper in Moscow decided to learn first-hand how harmful cell phones are. There is no magic in cooking with your cell phone. The secret is in the radio waves that the cell phone radiates.

The journalists created a simple microwave structure as shown in the picture. They called from one cell phone to the other and left both phones on talking mode. They placed a tape recorder next to phones to imitate sounds of speaking so the phones would stay on.

After, 15 minutes: The egg became slightly warm.
25 minutes: The egg became very warm.
40 minutes: The egg became very hot.
65 minutes: The egg was cooked.

First Conclusion: Cooking eggs with mobile phones is possible but very expensive ($4.55 or 123 Rubles)
Second Conclusion: All this talk of danger is exaggerated; even if your brain gets cooked, it would take a couple hours of talking on a cell phone.

I really feel so sorry for those who hold their cell phones next to their ears talking for an hour or two not knowing that they are cooking their brains ...

Skyguard Laser Air Defense System: Sheild Against Rockets & Missiles

Skyguard Laser Defense System

Northrop Grumman forecast Wednesday July 12th, 2006 a potential "very large" market for a laser-based system it has developed to shield airports and other installations from rockets, ballistic missiles and other threats.

Northrop Grumman has taken the Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL), a testbed deuterium fluoride (DF) laser weapon, and further developed it into a laser-based air defense system the company calls Skyguard. Northrop Grumman says the new system has higher power than older systems and a larger beam, and has benefited from significant technological advances, although no technical specs were disclosed.

The United States and Israel embarked on the THEL program in 1996; the program moved from initial concept to operational system in four years. In June 2000, the THEL conducted the first successful shoot-down of an operational Katyusha rocket in flight. The original THEL design includes a 3.8-micron-emitting DF laser, target-acquisition radar, automated battle management/command, control and communications, and pointer tracker for fire and beam control.

Northrop also is pushing Skyguard - described as capable of generating a shield five kilometers in radius - to each of the armed services and the Department of Homeland Security, company executives told a news briefing.

Setting up a protective "bubble" around a typical airport might cost $25 million to $30 million once enough systems were installed, said Mike McVey, vice president of directed energy systems at Northrop's Space Technology business unit.

"If it goes that path, it's a very large market," he said, citing potential demand from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and what he called virtually any country facing a threat from a neighbor.

For the United States, an initial unit could be ready in 18 months for $150 million to $200 million, added Dan Wildt, Northrop's director of business development for directed energy systems.

Northrop described Skyguard as capable of destroying rockets, mortars, artillery shells, unmanned aerial vehicles, short-range ballistic missiles, as well as cruise missiles. Against shoulder-fired missiles, which are relatively easy to heat with a laser and destroy, the protective shield would extend to a 20-kilometer radius, Wildt said.

$1.3 Million Cell Phone

$1.3 Million Cell Phone

The price of this Ancort Diamond Crypto Smart Phone has nothing to do with its special advanced features or breakthrough technology ... it's simply because of its diamond-encrusted case and the 5-carat blue diamond in place of the center navigation button.

Project Ornithopter: Aircraft With Mechanical Flapping Wings (Link)

Project Ornithopter

Saturday July 8th, Dr. James DeLaurier, an aeronautical engineer and professor emeritus at the University of Toronto's Institute for Aerospace Studies, fulfilled a lifelong dream, seeing his manned mechanical flapping-wing airplane, or ornithopter, fly — a dream first imagined by Leonardo da Vinci.

The flapper, as it's affectionately known, sustained flight over about a third of a kilometre for 14 seconds at about 10:20 a.m. before being hit by a crosswind and almost flipping over, damaging the nose and front wheel on the runway at Downsview Park.

But the flight was long enough to prove DeLaurier's mechanical flapping-wing design for a manned, jet-boosted aircraft works. The successful test flight was longer than the first powered flight by aviation pioneers the Wright brothers in December 1903 that lasted 12 seconds over a windswept beach in North Carolina. Beating that record was enough for DeLaurier.

"It is a perfect day," he said after the flight. "If I have the big one now, I'll die happy."

I think De Vinci will be so happy to see his dream design to be put finally in action. I couldn't find any video that showed this "aircraft" taking off more than a couple of feet. I think the above picture shows the highest the Ornithopter were able to fly. Despite that, I still believe it is an interesting project to keep an eye on from time to time.

Gen H-4: World's Smallest One Man Helicopter (Link)

Gen H-4: World's Smallest One Man Helicopter

This is a quitey interesting personal flying vehicle! GEN H-4 is the world's smallest co-axial helicopter ever made that actually flies! GEN H-4 is a Japanese designed and manufactured ultralight one-man helicopter. The total empty weight of this helicopter is only 155 lbs.

The frame is 2 inch aluminum pipe bent and welded, with a fiberglass backpack and funny looking wheels. The controls are direct, like many gyrocopters. In front of the pilot attached to the control bar is the control panel with the throttle (altitude control), tachometer, ignition power, starter and yaw switches. The tools necessary for flight do not seem like much because they aren't. This is not only the lightest helicopter in the world, but it is the easiest to fly! According to the website, it took the Pilot Jon Plummer less than 2 hours to learn to fly the GEN H-4.

If you look closely at the power pack (on top of the aircraft) you will find four small twin cylinder engines feeding into a central transmission with two sets of rotors turning in opposite directions.

GEN H-4 is designed by Gennai Yanagisawa, a Japanese engine designer, better known as ‘Gen’. Click here to read GEN H-4 specifications. On average a 70kg (155 lb.) pilot can fly approximately 1 hour on a 5-gallon tank of fuel. GEN H-4 has the following dimensions:

Rotor Diameter (13ft)
Height (8ft)
Net Weight (155lbs)
Gross Weight (420lbs)

GEN- H-4 can fly at a max speed of 55 mph with a maximum pilot weight of 200 lbs. According to Neatorama, GEN H-4 costs only $30,000 ...

Earth vs. Space Monsters (Link)

Images from Rense.com

What a small world we live in! What an understatement! A picture can explain better than thousands of words and there is no better example than the picture above. Click at the thumbnails to see the larger ones.

Look at the following simple comparisons first earth vs. other planets in our solar system ...
Planets Comparison (Size)
Earth = 1.05 x Venus
Earth = 1.88 x Mars
Earth = 2.63 x Mercury
Earth = 5.55 x Pluto
Sun = 108 x Earth
Jupiter = 11.1 x Earth
Saturn = 9.41 x Earth
Uranus = 4.00 x Earth
Neptune = 3.88 x Earth
Now look at the following comparisons between our sun and other far away stars ...
Stars Comparison (Luminosity)
Sirius = 23 x Sun
Pollux = 30.5 x Sun
Arcturus = 91 x Sun
Rigel = 30200 x Sun
Aldebaran = 149 x Sun
Betelgeuse = 9400 x Sun
Antares = 10700 x Sun
Now if you want to compare the stars sizes to the sun's ... then do the math using the following equation ...

(star's size)/(Sun's size) = (Sun's temperature/star's temperature)2 × Sqrt[star's luminosity/Sun's luminosity]

It is so amazing and so scary ... it shows how small we are and how NOTHING we are compared with the greateness of Allah and some of His other creations ....
